Wouldn't there be a problem with some of the cases because Columbo didn't give them their Miranda rights? Two of the cases don't even involve first degree murder. The victim was accidentally killed....

As far as Columbo's tactics, he usually said his questioning was just tying up loose ends, or just routine, or he had to fill out a report that would satisfy his superiors.
